Kevin Henkes
by Lorelei
Squeak, squeak, squeak! That's the sound of the characters of Kevin Henkes's books. He likes to use mice as the main characters. Kevin has written more than twenty books! Amazing!
Kevin Henkes was born on November 27, 1960 in Racine, Wisconsin. Kevin Henkes's style describes mice acting like people. Kevin Henkes decided to write books because he was encouraged to draw by his family and teachers. Perhaps that's what gave him the courage to go to New York City at the age of 19 to become an author. His first book published was All Alone. Did he make it in the big city? He did!
My favorite book written by this author is A Weekend With Wendell. Henkes is special because he won a Caldecott Honor for his book Owen. He has characters in his stories that are very unique. So, if you like cute little mice acting like people, check out the books of Kevin Henkes.
