Eve Bunting

By Sarah

"Writing is like breathing. It is just plain necessary!" That is what author Eve Bunting says about being an author. And I think it is necessary for Eve Bunting to keep writing such great books. She is still amazed that a little girl from Ireland could grow up to write books. She was born December 19, 1928. As a child her dad read stories and poetry to her. This made her start writing little stories to him. This was the start of her career as an author.

Eve Bunting grew up and came to the United States. She did not write for 20 years and then she decided to take a course on writing at the local University where she rediscovered her love of storytelling. This is when she really became an author. Her first book was The Tow Giants, which was published in 1972 when she was 40 years old.

Now she has written over 250 fiction and non-fiction books. My favorite book is called That's What Leprechauns Do. I like it because it is funny and reminds me of the leprechaun that visited my class. She has won many awards too. Smokey Night won a Caldecott Medal. So, if you are looking for a magical book, Eve Bunting is the author for you.
