David Shannon

By Taylor

"That's it, mister! You're staying after school!" And who is the mister? What had he done? It's one of the most famous authors and illustrators, David Shannon. He was drawing all over his desk and as usual the grown-ups were fussing at him.

David Shannon was born on October 5, 1960 in Washington, D.C.. He wrote his first book when he was 5 years old. It was called No, David. This books shows all the things he got in trouble for by his mom. When he grew up he went to college to be an artist. Scholastic books asked him to illustrate some of their children's books and he liked it so much that he started to write and illustrate his own books.

He has written over 20 books now and many of them have won awards like the Caldecott and the Golden Kite award. Besides the David books, many of David Shannon's books are about his daughter named Emma and their dog named Fergus. Fergus is in 9 books. He says that "In his book anything can happen. Ducks can ride bikes and kids can get rainbow stripes." I think it is cool that he writes about real people and animals in his life.

Some of my most favorite books by David Shannon are David goes to school, Duck on a Bike, and A bad case of Stripes. I like Stripes because the girl, Camille, changes colors so many times. I like David Goes to School because David always gets in trouble. My mom says No Taylor alot. So, if you sometimes get in trouble too or are just looking for a book with cool pictures, I hope you try reading some of David Shannon's books because you will love them.
