Janet Stevens
By Tyler
Have you ever wondered who dogs turn to when they have people problems? Well, let me tell you who the expert is. Her name is Janet Stevens, author and illustrator extraordinaire! She wrote one of my favorite books called Help Me Mr. Mutt. I like this book because it is about my favorite animal, dogs. It is very funny. I like the way Janet Stevens creates humorous characters.
Janet Stevens was born in Dallas, Texas. She moved many times during her childhood. The thing that remained the same was her love of drawing. You could even find her decorating her schoolwork with pictures. After she went to art school she had a portfolio of characters that she drew. She used these characters to create picture books for children. Now she works with her sister, Susan Stevens Crummel, to write books and visit schools.
In 1996 Janet Stevens' book Tops and Bottoms became a Caldecott honor book. Janet Stevens has written many retellings since then including My Big Dog,The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon, and Jackalope. She has also illustrated all the Epossumondas books by Coleen Salley.
Hey diddle, diddle, Cook-a-doodle-doo,
Epossumondas, the Bear, and the Plaidypus too.
The Little Mutt laughed to see the Queen fall
And the Jackalope ran away with the Fuzz Frenzy ball!
Janet Stevens's characters will make you laugh like crazy.
If you don't read her books, you are just plain lazy!
