Mary Pope Osborne

Guess who my favorite author is! It is Mary Pope Osborne. She was born on May 20, 1949 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Her father was in the Army so her family moved around and were very close. When she was young she was interested in acting and the theater. Later she got married and moved to New York where she was involved in theater productions.

She started writing books on a whim because she liked trying new things. The first book Run, Run as Fast as You Can was published in 1976. Mary's books are about interesting adventures. Now she has written more than 40 books. Her most popular series is the Magic Tree House. It is a beginning chapter book about a boy and a girl named Jack and Annie. They have adventures in a magic tree house.

My favorite book by Mary Pope Osborne is Moonhorse, published in 1988.  I like this book because it is about animals and I like animals. Many of her books have animals or history in them. She loves getting ideas from kids and reading the letters they send her. She also enjoys writing and re-writing to get her stories just right!
